Experimented micro green farming on green grams
Around a four days back, i have seen an article in newspaper related to micro green farming, so at that moment i thought it's something new in farming, when i searched deeply regarding it, it was not a new method, its already implemented in most of the european countries, also so many of them sell these method of farmed plants as an income. Micro green farming is a method of not using soil as a part of farming, here we only need just some tissue paper or coir pith with some water for growing beans, grams etc. Also the harvesting is done quickly when the grams or beans just start to grow just two leaves.
So why most of them start micro green farming is its easiness to grow grams,beans without any needs of digging soil, plus we dont need to check it regularly. Also eating sprout grams or beans are healthier for body, so this is the reason most of them relying on this method, many of them use this method to make green gram leaf curry. So many of them use trays to farm micro green grams, they place these in shelfes, so less space is required for micro green farming.
METHOD OF MICRO GREEN FARMING:
You can use either a bowl or tray, so tray would be better to farm, as i dont have a tray, i have used a bowl instead. Keep grams inside an another bowl of water for around a 6 hours.Tissue paper of around 3-4 is placed on the bowl. Sprinkle some water on the tissue paper, make sure not to sprinkle more water on tissue paper, more water leads to damage of grams. Now you can take the grams from the bowl and spread on the tissue paper. Place these bowl where it get's sufficient light, i have placed these on my sitout of my house. You can see on those pics, it is around 4 days now, not fully grown, need some more days to grow completely, when most of them are grown having around two or more leaves they are ready to harvest. Make sure to sprinkle water on it daily.
So many use these to prepare curry or as a side dish for rice. You can prepare some side dish with this, so what i am going to prepare is like this,
CURRY:
Cut these grown grams into pieces, boil them in water. In a pan add some coconut oil, mustard, curry leaves, onions, chilli podwder(only when onion turns gold colour), turmeric powder,salt, step by step. Put boiled grams into the pan, mix it well for around 15 minutes, thats it side dish for rice is ready. If you want a curry add some grinded coconut and coconut milk into the pan.
SALAD:
Cut some vegetables like cucumber, carrot, capsiccum mix those vegetables with small cut pieces of the farmed green grams, springle some lemon juice above the salad. It will be much better to eat green grams directly with salad, cause boiling them or making curry losses it's vitamin in it.
